The QS University Rankings by Subject are based on five indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, the H-index (a way of measuring the productivity and published work of a scientist or scholar) and international research network. Additionally, McGill University (22nd), University of British Columbia (28th), and McMaster University (40th) also secure spots among the top 50 universities worldwide in Canada.

Europe is home to 252 of the top universities to study medicine. Of these, the United Kingdom claims 48 of Europe’s top medical schools, including four of the global top ten. Outside of the top ten, there are plenty of other medical schools which perform very well including King’s College London (13th), London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (18th), The University of Edinburgh (22nd), The University of Manchester (32nd) and University of Glasgow (48th).

France has achieved a commendable performance this year, with 18 universities being recognized, including two that have secured positions within the top 150. Sorbonne University ranks at 49th place, while Université Paris-Saclay stands at 140th position. These institutions have particularly excelled in terms of research citations per paper indicator.

Italy had a strong performance in the rankings this year, with an impressive presence of 30 universities. Among them, four managed to secure positions within the top 150.

Germany has an impressive presence in the medical rankings this year, with a total of 32 universities included. Among these, two universities have secured positions within the top 50: Universität Heidelberg at 36th place and Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität München at 43rd place.

Spain has a total of 19 universities that are recognized and Universitat de Barcelona is among the top 100, ranking at joint 46th position.

In the current ranking, there are a total of nine medical schools in the Netherlands. Among them, two have secured positions within the top 50: University of Amsterdam at 30th place and Erasmus University Rotterdam at 39th place.

Denmark boasts a strong presence in the rankings with five universities making the cut. The University of Copenhagen, positioned at 43rd globally, has performed impressively in terms of citations per paper.

Sweden has a strong presence in the global ranking of top medical schools, with eight institutions making it onto the list. Among them is Karolinska Institutet, which stands out as the only non-UK and non-US university to secure a position in the top ten. In India, there are a total of 26 universities, with three of them ranking among the top 50 globally. These include The University of Melbourne at 24th position, The University of Sydney at 25th position, and Monash University at 40th position.

This year, three universities from New Zealand have made it to the ranking. The University of Auckland is positioned at 122nd among the top 150 universities globally.

In the current ranking of medical schools, there are a total of 187 top institutions in Asia. Japan stands out with the highest number of medical schools in the region, boasting an impressive count of 32. Among these, two universities from Japan have secured positions within the global top 100 – The University of Tokyo at 42nd place and Kyoto University at 59th place.

In the latest rankings, there are a total of 22 universities from South Korea, with Seoul National University securing the 37th position.
